New Group Organizes to Inspire the Building of Housing in Guelph with
Embedded Multidisciplinary Care

GUELPH, ON – June, 2025

A group of Guelph and Wellington County citizens are organizing to encourage the construction of deeply-affordable housing with embedded multidisciplinary care. They first met in June and are now an incorporated not-for-profit and have named themselves MyOwnPlace Guelph.

“Our name, MyOwnPlace Guelph, spells out our commitment to get Guelph and Wellington County to pay more attention to those folks who are at risk of being pushed into homelessness,” says Lyn Marfisi the chair of the new startup. “Keeping folks out of the homelessness statistics takes more than a roof and a bed. Our emphasis is on housing that has both deeply affordable rent and has integrated assistance programs on site that help tenants maintain dignity and develop independence.”

The new not-for-profit is seeking charitable status and is engaging with other groups to expand community efforts for those at risk of falling into homelessness. Their goal is to become an effective support for projects that provide permanent housing with affordable rent and embedded care programs designed to keep folks from becoming a homeless statistic.
